The UK’s new free trade agreements in the Asia-Pacific: how closely is it adopting US trade regulation?

In a global economy and system increasingly defined by new developments complexities in trade, whose rules regulations govern that trade matter. The UK has embarked on post-Brexit policy, signing its first wholly free agreements (FTAs) with Australia New Zealand. It is also negotiations to join the Comprehensive Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) as part of UK’s aspirations become an integral Asia-Pacific trading community. This study’s research text analysis bilateral FTAs Zealand reveals high levels similarity two larger regional heavily imprinted US regulatory norms—this being CPTPP itself United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA). revealed willingness strongly align norms important implications for Asia-Pacific. raises some key issues what kind partner region might expect ‘Global Britain’ become, how deeper planned engagement could affect strategic dynamics. significantly depend closely pulled over time into US’ orbit.
